Round Rock roofer wins national contest ROUND ROCK (KXAN) — A Round Rock woman has been named the Female Roofing Professional of the Year.Michelle Ly took the top honor in this annual campaign put on by Beacon, highlighting women in the roofing industry across the U.S. and Canada.More than 3,000 women were nominated for the competition.Ly, who serves as operations manager at Hall Roofing and Construction in Round Rock, was also the first woman from Texas to win this award.Working within an industry historically dominated by men, Ly has been climbing up the roofing business for many years.“This has always been a tough industry for women,” she said. “I’ve found the biggest challenge is getting people's trust by showing my knowledge in this field.”With the win, Ly will receive a $10,000 grand prize and a trip to the International Roofing Expo in Las Vegas. Members of the Williamson County Patriots wrapped the monument with a black fabric Tuesday, before then wrapping it with an American flag. SLMPD investigating several overnight shootings ST. LOUIS - The Independence Day holiday ends with gun violence in St. Louis City. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police are investigating around a half-dozen shootings Wednesday morning.Someone died in one of the shootings. They say a man was killed, and a woman was injured just after 12:30 a.m. Our Nissan Rogue Runner reporter Nic Lopz captured footage of the shooting that happened in the Dutchtown neighborhood on Chippewa Street at Gravois Avenue. Crews investigating fatal house fire in St. Charles County ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. - Crews are investigating a house fire that left one person dead in St. Charles County. Central County Fire and Rescue responded to the call a little after midnight after someone reported a fire in the garage on Arlington Drive. Denver City Council weighs $3 million payment program to boost immigrant families impacted by COVID Roughly 2,000 Denver families may soon receive one-time cash payments under a $3 million program being considered by the City Council primarily to help immigrant families impacted by the pandemic.A council committee gave initial approval to the program last week, setting it up for a full vote before the body later this month.The program would provide payments of between $1,000 and $1,500 to low-income families impacted by COVID-19 with at least one juvenile child at home and who meet other qualifications, like housing insecurity or living in certain areas of the city.
