Boyle will get another start at QB as Jets try to rebound from brutal Black Friday performance

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 17:13:08 GMT

Tim Boyle is getting another chance to lead the New York Jets’ offense. And Aaron Rodgers is back in the facility on a regular basis — pondering and working toward his return to the field. The entire team certainly could use a spark — or at least some sliver of optimism — after a dark Black Friday performance. The Jets lost their fourth straight, 34-13 to the Miami Dolphins, with the lasting image being Jevon Holland intercepting and returning Boyle’s failed Hail Mary throw 99 yards for a touchdown at the end of the first half.“Just a very unfortunate event that took place,” coach Robert Saleh said Saturday. That has been a recurring theme for the Jets (4-7) since Rodgers went down with a torn left Achilles tendon just four snaps into his debut with the team.Zach Wilson was ineffective and, at times, downright bad in nine starts. So the Jets turned to Boyle, who was 27 of 38 for 179 yards and a TD with two interceptions in his first start since the 2021 season. He was sacked...

BERLIN (AP) — English teenager Jamie Bynoe-Gittens scored one goal and set up another Saturday as Borussia Dortmund fought back to beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 4-2 and snap a three-game winless run in the Bundesliga.Dortmund, which drew with Eintracht Frankfurt and then lost to lost Bayern Munich and Stuttgart, was seemingly on its way to a third straight defeat with Gladbach leading 2-0 after 28 minutes. But Marcel Sabitzer pulled one back two minutes later, Bynoe-Gittens set up Niclas Füllkrug to equalize two minutes after that, and Füllkrug returned the favor for Bynoe-Gittens to score just before the break. It was his first league goal of the season on his fourth appearance. The 19-year-old Bynoe-Gittens was only playing as Dortmund made two late changes with forwards Karim Adeyemi and Sébastien Haller dropping out through illness.Donyell Malen sealed the win on a counterattack in injury time.Kevin Volland scored his first goal for Union Berlin to salvage a 1-1 draw against Augsbu...

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 17:13:08 GMT

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 17:13:08 GMT

Massachusetts lawmaker floats ferry alternative to Boston’s Long Island bridge plan

A state lawmaker from Quincy is pushing for legislation to study the cost of implementing a ferry service to Long Island, which he sees as a better approach than Boston’s plan to rebuild a bridge out to a future addiction-recovery campus.State Rep. Bruce Ayers filed a bill that would create a special commission dedicated to studying the “feasibility and efficacy of establishing, operating and administering a ferry service to Long Island” in Boston Harbor.“I introduced this legislation because the issue of access to Long Island continues to receive a lot of attention, yet there seems to be a lack of information available on all the options for means of access,” Ayers told the Herald.“The cost of rebuilding the former Long Island bridge is known to be in the $150-plus million range, yet the alternative that is frequently brought up is a ferry service and we don’t know the cost of that potential option.”The bill states that a potential 11-member commission, consisting of House, S...

KFAR KILA, Lebanon (AP) — With a cautious calm prevailing over the border area in south Lebanon Saturday, the second day of a four-day cease-fire between Hamas and Israel, villages that had emptied of their residents came back to life — at least briefly.Shuttered shops reopened, cars moved through the streets, and a family on on outing posed for photos in front of brightly colored block letters proclaiming “I (HEART) ODAISSEH” in one border town, with the tense frontier as a backdrop.Around 55,500 Lebanese are displaced by the clashes between the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah and Israeli forces since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas war, according to the International Organization for Migration. The fighting has killed more than 100 people in Lebanon, including more than a dozen civilians — three of them journalists — and 12 people on the Israeli side, including four civilians. While Lebanon and Hezbollah weren’t officially parties to the cease-fire between Israel and Hamas...

New York (AP) — Rep. George Santos has said he expects to be expelled from Congress following a scathing report by the House Ethics Committee that found substantial evidence of lawbreaking by the New York Republican. In a defiant speech Friday sprinkled with taunts and obscenities aimed at his congressional colleagues, Santos insisted he was “not going anywhere.” But he acknowledged that his time as a member of Congress, at least, may soon be coming to an end. “I know I’m going to get expelled when this expulsion resolution goes to the floor,” he said Friday night during a conversation on X Spaces. “I’ve done the math over and over, and it doesn’t look really good.”The comments came one week after the Republican chairman of the House Ethics Committee, Michael Guest, introduced a resolution to expel Santos once the body returns from Thanksgiving break. While Santos has survived two expulsion votes, many of his colleagues who formerly opposed the effort now say they support it, citing ...
